While private lessons are not for every child, every child can benefit from making music in a community! There are many educational and emotional benefits to group music classes from infancy through elementary school and beyond!

Joyful Music Making!

Using the First Steps in Music Curriculum by Dr. John Feierabend, students will explore joyful music making in a community setting. Lessons focus on helping children become “Tuneful, Beatful, and Artful”, matching pitch, internalizing the beat, and connecting emotionally with music. If your child has been attending the Options Homeschool Enrichment program, this is what I’ve been using for the last 9 years.

3rd-5th Grade (Older students welcome)

More Music Making!

Building on the concepts of “Tuneful, Beatful, Artful” music making, older students will expand to include folk dancing, hand clapping games, and learning about musical traditions around the world. The beginnings of Music Literacy using Dr. Feierabend’s curriculum, Conversational Solfege-which is joyfully folk song and game based is used in this class. Students will build skills that are the foundation for more advanced part-singing. If your child has been attending the Options Homeschool Enrichment program, I have been using this curriculum for the older kids for the last 9 years.

Both classes will have opportunities to have fun, holiday based lessons sensitive to the beliefs of the participants, and a chance to go Christmas caroling to local nearby businesses in December. If students are learning an instrument outside of this music class (piano, ukulele, guitar, etc) I am open to the idea of finding ways to incorporate that into our classes!
